Starting this September, Kingstone Insurance will start a pilot program to offer a free Roost Smart Water Leak and Freeze Detector or a Roost Smart Battery to some of its policyholders in the Northeast region.

By deploying the Roost’s home telematics platform, Kingstone says that policyholders will be able to better mitigate the cost and hassle of fire, smoke and water leak related claims.

The insurance company will also be empowered to strengthen their engagement with the policyholders through Roost’s co-branded Kingstone Insurance mobile app, which was recently enhanced with emergency weather alerts and home service pro access.

Kingstone Insurance president and chief operating officer Dale Thatcher said: “For more than a century we have been a trusted standard bearer for safety and security in the New York insurance industry, always searching for new ways to best meet our policyholders’ needs.

“Now, with Roost we will also be the brand of forward-looking innovation. Together we will deliver smart sensors that give our customers the best technology to mitigate their risk of water and fire loss. At the same time, the initiative enables us to deepen our ongoing relationship with policyholders and agents.”

Roost’s Smart Water Leak and Freeze Detector has been designed to sense water leaks along with humidity and freezing temperature situations. This device can be located in places in the home that are most prone to water leaks such as sinks, hot water heaters, toilets and various appliances. It can then deliver smartpone alerts through the co-branded Kingstone app to help minimize water damage and loss.

Its Smart 9V Battery is a retrofit solution that claims to transform existing smoke alarms into smart alarms. When there is no one at home, while the alarm rings, a smartphone notification will be delivered. These are Wi-Fi enabled smart sensors and do not need a hub and are claimed that they can be installed in less than five minutes.

Roost co-founder and CEO Roel Peeters said: “We are excited to be working with Kingstone Insurance to deliver a wide-range of new smart sensor capabilities to the company and its policyholders.

“With Roost’s Home Telematics solutions, Kingstone is extending its proud tradition of service and improving its ability to engage with its policyholders in a meaningful way.”
