Travelers, a provider of property casualty insurance for auto, home and business, has named Bill Cunningham as executive vice president of business insurance, effective March 1, 2010.

Mr Cunningham succeeds John Albano following his decision to take on a part time role at Travelers to pursue outside interests.

Mr Cunningham began his career with Travelers in 1987 in commercial accounts and has held various leadership roles in the Travelers Construction, national accounts and commercial accounts businesses. He is also a member of the company’s management committee.

Jay Fishman, chairman and CEO of Travelers, said: “I would like to personally thank John for the tremendous contribution he has made to this company. John has been a key partner, and I couldn’t be more pleased that he has agreed to continue contributing in such important roles. I am also pleased that Bill Cunningham will now be leading Business Insurance, our largest business segment.”

Brian MacLean, president and chief operating officer at Travelers, said: “Bill has a tremendous depth of underwriting and leadership experience across our commercial lines businesses and is the stand-out choice to continue building on the success and strong organization that John has built.

“While John has decided to take on a part time role at Travelers, I am pleased that the company will continue to benefit from his significant experience, talent and leadership.”
