MoreThan, the UK insurer owned by Royal & SunAlliance, is offering cheaper insurance to younger motorists - provided they are in by 11pm.

MoreThan is offer drivers aged between 18 and 25 a 40% discount on their insurance if they do not use their car between 11pm and 6am. The car is fitted with a GPS device that tracks when the car is used and any use during the night will result in a GBP25 charge.

The DriveTime scheme is based on Department of Transport statistics which show that accident rates peak during the hours of 11pm to 6am for drivers aged between 18 and 25. MoreThan claims that one million young drivers have been involved or know someone who was involved in a crash at that time of night.

High accident rates for young drivers on the roads at night are a major issue and we have been working for some time to come up with a solution to reduce these, said Bryan Turner, Head of DriveTime at MoreThan. DriveTime provides a fantastic way for young, safe drivers to avoid being on the roads at the most dangerous times and can also save them a significant amount off their insurance costs. DriveTime is running as a pilot scheme, initially involving 2000 vehicles.
