Bermuda-headquartered specialist insurer Hiscox is to bolster its UK expansion plan by opening a new office in Manchester that will increase the company's availability to brokers in the country's Northwest.

The office, which will be operational as of January 2, 2007, will be the company’s ninth UK workplace. Other locations include Glasgow, Leeds, Birmingham and London.

Steve Langan, managing director of Hiscox UK, said: The opening of the office in Manchester represents the next stage of our UK expansion. It supports our core strategy of making our insurance decision-makers accessible, which helps differentiate us from the competition through local understanding.

According to the company, Cath Timberlake will continue as regional manager for the North of England, while Lee Turner will be manager of the Manchester branch. Underwriters Paul Duddle and Geraldine Holding will support Mr Turner while development underwriter Darren Power will assist him in business development for the office.

Hiscox has recently opened two new offices in Sweden and Portugal and now has offices in 12 countries, including New York, Bermuda and several western European countries.
