HCC Insurance Holdings has appointed William Burke as executive vice president and chief operating officer of HCC with effect from 24 March 2012.

Burke has also been appointment to serve as president on or before 31 May 2013.

HCC CEO John N Molbeck said Bill Burke is a 35-year insurance veteran who will bring a wealth of experience to HCC.

"Mr. Burke brings a comprehensive technical insurance background to many of the existing HCC specialty lines of business, including property, onshore/offshore energy, surety, directors’ and officers’ liability, as well as primary and excess casualty. He is a proven leader with strong personnel management skills and will add to the already experienced senior management team at HCC," Molbeck said.

In 1977, Burke began his insurance career with Home Insurance and most recently served at Aon and its successor company for almost 30 years serving as chief operating officer.

He has been responsible for Aon’s US retail organization with 4,000 employees in over 40 offices across the US.

The new appointment leads to Christopher Williams to be appointed as chief executive officer when John Molbeck, Jr. retires on or before 31 May 2013.

US based firm HCC Insurance owns assets of $9.6bn and shareholders’ equity of $3.3bn and provides its services in the US, the UK, Spain and Ireland.
