The US Federal Bureau of Investigation is reportedly in the early stages of investigating possible fraud in American financial institutions Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, bankrupt investment bank Lehman Brothers and insurer American International Group.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) will assess weather the financial organizations and their top management have presented misleading information about their financial strength, which can be a possible cause for their collapse. FBI is reportedly already investigating more than 20 financial institutions in the midst of the recent crisis in the financial markets.

Recently, the US government has proposed a bailout option worth $700 billion to stabilize financial market in the country and across the globe.
