Digital Insurance, an employee benefits agency, has appointed Bob Schoen as new senior vice president of technology and Wayne Mertel as vice president of voluntary solutions, to expand its technology and voluntary solutions capabilities.

Schoen will be responsible for managing Digital’s entire spectrum of information technology. He most recently served as vice president of eBusiness at KAR Auction Services a publicly traded company.

Previously, Schoen held a variety of management positions, including director of research and development and director of software development at Manheim, a division of Cox Enterprises.

Mertel, who will be based in Kansas City, will guide Digital’s sales and operations team to identify and implement opportunities in the voluntary benefits market.

He has nearly 20 years of experience in working in all the facets of the business.

Mertel career includes positions with carriers Transamerica Worksite/AEGON and American General/AIG, and he has operated as a broker, enroller and administrator of voluntary products.

Digital Insurance president and CEO Adam Bruckman said these individuals will help ensure Digital’s continued growth as Digital build on first decade of success and sustain leadership role in a changing marketplace.
