CV Starr & Co, a privately owned holding company with insurance agencies and a portfolio of investments, has appointed Julien Combeau as head of environmental liability practice, Europe.

As part of the Starr Casualty team, Combeau will lead the effort in developing and promoting all environmental-related covers.

Combeau will primarily focus on France and the European countries where these products are already, or becoming, a topical insurance need due to the evolution of the local and European Union legislation.

Combeau will be based in the CV Starr office in Paris, France. He will report into Nicolas Berg, regional manager Europe, Starr Casualty, a division of Starr Underwriting Agents, a wholly owned subsidiary of CV Starr.

Recently, Combeau was environmental liability underwriting manager for Continental Europe at Chartis Europe. Prior to joining the insurance sector, he worked as an environmental consultant and with the Alcoa group.

Berg said the implementation of the latest EU Environmental Liability Directive makes this environmental offering a key differentiator and another great addition to the already comprehensive range of casualty solutions.
