CIGNA, a health insurance company, and Caligor Rx, a clinical trial procurement company, have signed an agreement to supply prescription medications to CIGNA's expatriate customers.

Outside the US, CIGNA serves expatriates and provides employers, affinity groups and individuals access to local and global health care and related financial protection programs.

CIGNA International Expatriate Benefits chief medical officer Daniel Ober said the primary objective is to facilitate ease of access to the best available health care services around the world.

"Through Caligor Rx, we are able to ensure our customers who travel abroad will get the highest quality prescription medications available without the worry of counterfeit drugs that have emerged in many locations," Ober said.

Counterfeit drug sales are now estimated to account for about $75bn in total sales, according to the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy.
