Cardif, the life insurance arm of BNP Paribas Assurance, is set to expand its central European presence with the establishment of an additional two units in Bulgaria and Romania.

Both units will offer market creditor insurance and individual protection products in partnership with banks and financial institutions.

The office in Bulgaria will be headed by Mario Kostov, previously chief executive of a Bulgarian insurance company, and Cardif in Romania will be lead by Carmen Bahrim, previously an executive with an international insurance company, based in Bucharest. Both markets are poised for a robust economic growth.

The life insurer has already established itself as a leading creditor insurance company in central Europe. The two new offices will take the total number of offices to six, within the region, where Cardif first began operating in 1996 with Poland and the Czech Republic, followed by Slovakia in 2000 and Hungary in 2002.

The business units are scheduled to open in February 2007.
