South Carolina-based Canal Insurance Company has appointed David Firstenberg as its new president and CEO.
Firstenberg succeeds John Pollock, who has served as interim CEO since the retirement of Charles Timmons in December 2009. Pollock will continue to serve as a director of Canal.
Before joining Canal, Firstenberg was the president of specialty property and surety for The Hanover Insurance Group in Worcester, Massachusetts.
Previously, Firstenberg has served in executive positions at One Beacon Insurance Group, Zenith National and Chubb.
Canal chairman of the board Lanse Crane said that Firstenberg’s operating experience, his success at building specialty operations, and his understanding of independent agency distribution system make him very well suited to lead the company.
