Aviva USA, part of Aviva, has appointed Joseph Wittrock, as new chief investment officer for the West Des Moines-based company.

In this role, Wittrock will lead a new investment group within Aviva USA responsible for managing the risk and investment results of an approximately $50bn asset portfolio.

Wittrock, currently serves as head of research for Aviva Investors North America and the member of the Aviva USA’s executive committee. Following this appointment, he will move from Aviva Investors North America to Aviva USA, effective immediately.

Wittrock will report directly to Aviva USA president and CEO Chris Littlefield.

Wittrock joined Aviva in 2000, most recently leading Aviva Investor’s fixed income credit research team.

Prior to this, his experience included securities analysis for a broad array of industries and issuers, and management of high-yield fixed income portfolios.

Wittrock said that his team will focus on asset allocation, asset liability management and Aviva USA’s institutional product and funding agreement businesses.

"We will look to optimize investment returns and, in doing so, plan to continue to utilize Aviva Investors where appropriate to deliver superior investment returns and avoid duplication," Wittrock said.
