Arch Capital Group, a Bermuda-based provider of property and casualty insurance and reinsurance lines, has reported a net income available to common shareholders of $91.9m, or $0.67 diluted earnings per share, for the second quarter of 2011, compared to $237.0m, or $1.48 diluted earnings per share, in the second quarter of 2010.

After-tax operating income available to common shareholders was $61.5m for the 2011 second quarter, compared to $132.2m, for the 2010 second quarter.

The second quarter of 2011 results included losses for current year catastrophic events of $95.0m, net of reinsurance and reinstatement premiums, compared to $7.0m in the 2010 second quarter.

Total revenues were $775.5m for the second quarter of 2011, compared to $776.3m in the prior-year period.

In the second quarter of 2011, the net premiums written were $706.5m, compared to $624.2m in the corresponding quarter of the 2010.
