Amlin, a UK-based specialist insurance and reinsurance underwriting group, has appointed Julian Lloyd to its Bloodstock underwriting team.

At Amlin, Lloyd will be helping to develop the insurers’ products for global thoroughbred breeding and racing stock and high value sport horses.

Lloyd will join Lloyd’s insurer from Hiscox, where he has spent 20 years developing its bloodstock book.

He started his career as a claims broker and then a reinsurance placing broker at Sedgwick Collins and moved across to the firm’s underwriting department, which later became Methuen, where he wrote bloodstock business.

Amlin Plus managing director David Ashby said Lloyd brings not only 35 years’ experience of bloodstock underwriting but also a substantial book of largely US business which complements Amlin’s current portfolio and strategy for growth.
