Alterra Capital Holdings, a Bermuda-based provider diversified specialty insurance and reinsurance product, has established marine and professional indemnity operations at its wholly owned Lloyd's Syndicate 1400.
In connection with this, Alterra has appointed Bart Grefe as marine underwriting manager, Paula McManus as professional indemnity underwriting manager, Andrew Thorp as cargo underwriter, and Christopher Burgess as professional indemnity underwriter, all of Alterra at Lloyd’s.
Both, Grefe and Thorp have over two decades of marine underwriting experience, and most recently served at Starr Underwriting Agents, CVS Syndicate 1919.
Similarly, McManus has 20 years of experience as a professional indemnity underwriter. Most recently, McManus was served at Beazley Management.
Burgess will join the firm with over five years experience as a professional indemnity underwriter, most recently as UK financial lines manager for small and medium enterprises (SME) at Chartis UK.
McManus is expected to join Alterra at Lloyd’s in August 2011, while Grefe, Thorp and Burgess are expected to join in September 2011.
Alterra president and CEO Marston Becker said the addition of marine and professional liability underwriting capabilities is a further important step in diversifying and building out the underwriting capability of Alterra at Lloyd’s and in enhancing worldwide marine and professional liability operations.
