Supplemental health insurance provider Aflac has introduced enhanced short-term disability insurance plan for customers in California, US.

The newly introduced policy offers a guaranteed-issue option and includes new benefits features, such as increased maximum benefit, lowered minimum income and hours requirement, as well as waiver of premium benefit.

The plan is specifically designed to cover out-of-pocket expenses that are arising from an illness or accident, which typically are not covered by major medical insurance.

Aflac Worksite Marketing senior vice president John Harmeling said, "The Aflac short-term disability plan can help protect employees and provide peace of mind, and doesn’t add to employers’ benefits costs."

Income replacement and partial disability benefits are also offered by the Aflac short-term disability policy.

Headquartered in Georgia, Aflac is a provider of voluntary and guaranteed-renewable insurance in the US, and also offers supplemental health and life insurance through its subsidiaries.
