US-based health insurer Aetna has opened a new office in Roanoke and launched MajestaCare, a new managed care Medicaid program, offered by Carilion Clinic and administered by Aetna.

Health insurer said Carilion announced last March that it was collaborating with Aetna to offer a variety of benefits programs, including commercial products, Medicare Advantage and Medicaid.

The plan will lease space from Carilion Clinic at 213 South Jefferson Street, Roanoke, beginning in mid-November. Initially, the plan will employ 25 employees with planned growth to 50 in the coming year.

MajestaCare will work with providers to assure its Medicaid members have access to quality health care throughout western Virginia.

MajestaCare’s members will benefit both from Carilion Clinic’s understanding of the unique needs of the people of western Virginia and Aetna’s Medicaid managed care experience.

Aetna offers a broad range of traditional, voluntary and consumer-directed health insurance products and related services, including medical, pharmacy, dental, behavioral health, group life and disability plans, and medical management capabilities and health care management services for Medicaid plans.
