Aetna has extended its contract with self-insured employee benefit plan administrator CoreSource. Through the deal, CoreSource's customers and members will receive access to Aetna's national PPO network.

CoreSource said the contract will also enable the company meet the surging interest in self-insured plans, with access to quality doctors, hospitals, and medical management.

Aetna has teamed with several third-party administrators (TPAs) to provide its self-insured customers with various services including network services and management, stop loss insurance, and medical management, which form part of the company’s Signature Administrators (ASA) business.

Through its ASA business, Aetna offers Stop Loss insurance coverage for the employer group, handles claims pricing, contracts with plan sponsors to provide access to the PPO network, provides network services and management, resolves contract issues, and oversees large case medical management.

The TPA, in turn, handles sales, client management, claims processing, provides customer service, designs plans, and manages precertification using Aetna standards and approved criteria.
