Beazley has appointed Paul Gulstrand as the head of accident and health insurance in the US, who will look into the expansion of the company's accident and health business into the US insurance market. Mr Gulstrand will be based in Minneapolis, reporting to Chris Branch.

Mr Gulstrand was a CEO of UnitedHealth Group’s OptumHealth specialty benefits division. He has nearly three decades of experience and most recently held leadership roles at UnitedHealth Group. Prior to this, he served as president of ING/ReliaStar’s Group and voluntary employee benefits divisions where he had oversight over P&L, operations, IT, strategic planning and sales.

Chris Branch, head of Accident & Life division at Beazley, said: Beazley is making a significant commitment to the US accident & health market, as well as continuing to expand its existing reinsurance business.

We will be developing close working relationships with multiple distribution channels to build our presence in the US. We are delighted to welcome Paul on board and are confident his extensive experience will prove invaluable in this process. He will work alongside Peter Slot, head of accident & health reinsurance in the US.
