Research from the Association of British Insurers (ABI) shows legal representation does not usually lead to higher or faster compensation in personal injury cases.

Analysis of over 90,000 personal injury claims between GBP1,000 and GBP25,000 by the ABI showed that claimants without legal representation receive on average GBP289 more than claimants with legal representation.

The study also found that the time taken to settle claims without legal representation is on average 95 days shorter.

There is now no doubt about the need for reform of the personal injury compensation system. Our research shows that genuine claimants will benefit from a simpler, speedier system which minimizes legal wrangling.

Citizens Advice, local authorities and employer groups agree [that] we must work together to deliver a fairer, faster compensation system, says Stephen Haddrill, the ABI’s director general.
