XL Re, the global reinsurance operations of XL Group, has appointed Philippe Rochaix as the new president and chief operating officer (COO) of XL Re Latin America, effective 1 October 2010.

Rochaix will replace replace Stephen Outerbridge who will take on other responsibilities within XL’s Reinsurance Operations. However, Outerbridge will work closely with Rochaix during the transition period.

Rochaix, currently general manager and senior vice president of XL Re Europe’s French Branch, is based in Le Mans, France.

Bertrand Romagne, who managed XL Re’s Property Treaty Department for continental Europe, will assume Rochaix’s responsibilities at XL Re Europe as of 1 October 2010.

Rochaix has more than 20 years of experience in the (re)insurance industry, including more than 10 years in emerging markets. As general manager of XL Re Europe’s French branch, he was responsible for the management and underwriting of the Property & Casualty Reinsurance Treaty book for Continental Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Rochaix also served as chief underwriting officer of XL Re Singapore.

Prior to joining XL, Rochaix served from 1998 to 2002 as managing director of Le Mans Re‘s regional operations in Singapore, Sydney and Labuan.
