XL Insurance has named Bernard Horovitz as the new chief underwriting officer of its global professional operations. Mr Horovitz will report to John Glancy, chief underwriting officer.

Mr Horovitz served as XL Insurance’s chief actuary for its professional lines of business. In his new role, Mr Horovitz will oversee all operations in the professional business unit, supervising a staff of more than 185 professionals throughout XL Insurance’s global enterprise.

Mr Horovitz began his career at Aetna Life & Casualty in 1986, working in commercial lines pricing, corporate finance, personal auto, homeowners and actuarial. He joined XL Insurance in 2000 as the global pricing and reserving actuary for professional business unit.

An Allegheny College graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and a minor in economics, Mr Horovitz is an associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society.
