XL Insurance, the global insurance operations of XL Group, has appointed Robert Schenone as new vice president and senior class underwriter to its space underwriting unit.

Schenone will be based in New York and report to Chris Kunstadter, head of space underwriting.

Schenone will join XL Insurance from Sciemus, where he served as head of the company’s Americas operation and lead satellite underwriter.

The career of Schenone includes the roles with ACE in Bermuda as a satellite underwriter and over 15 years with Marsh in both the US and Bermuda, most recently heading the broker’s space projects unit.

The global aerospace operations of XL group offer coverage for airlines, products manufacturers, general aviation and space risks around globe.

XL Insurance chief underwriting officer global aerospace Christopher O’Gwen said Rob brings a strong combination of both satellite and aviation insurance expertise and dual experience as both a broker and an underwriter.
