According to the XL Insurance, a new dedicated underwriting team, based in Sydney and a newly-opened Melbourne office, will serve companies with revenues of approximately AUD50m and above.

The middle market team will focus on providing property and casualty policies, with a capability to offer a combined solution, if required.

In addition, XL Insurance has appointed James Shilling, Dale Graf as senior property writer and Ben Patrick as senior casualty underwriter. Shilling will be based in Sydney while Graf and Patrick in the new Melbourne office.

Shilling has 17 years of experience and he will join from Chartis. Graf has 20 years of experience and previously worked at Vero. Patrick will join XL Insurance from Chubb with 11 years of experience.

XL Insurance Australian country manager Craig Langham said that with the local offices, underwriting expertise and global network XL Insurance can support these middle market companies in Australia and internationally. The entry into this segment is an important element of XL Insurance’s growth strategy in Australia.

XL Insurance chief property underwriter Middle Market Stephan Bachmann said that XL’s dedicated Middle Market underwriting team will offer comprehensive property and casualty policies to a wide range of sectors.

"With XL WorldPass we can also provide a Global Program solution with coverage in more than 100 countries, helping clients to respond to tighter and more complex local regulatory frameworks as they look to expand overseas," Bachmann said.
