Insurance Business Review has declared Xchanging's Xoom mobile app the winner of the Technology Initiative in Insurance award.

The product was selected from four nominations shortlisted for the award.

Xoom, launched in the Australian market as a web-based mobile app for insurance, has been developed for intermediaries to perform activities such as online transaction, opening of new policies, viewing existing ones from anywhere and any mobile device.

In the first phase of its release, Xoom was made available to workers’ compensation insurance intermediaries in New South Wales in 2013. The app is expected to be provided to employers in the first half of 2014.

According to Xchanging, Xoom speeds up the claim process, and provides a Certificate of Currency functionality to prove that an employer is maintaining a current workers’ compensation insurance policy for its employees.

The new app is available from the Apple App Store and Google Play for both iOS and Android operating systems.

During the launch of the product, Xchanging Australia Insurance head Diego Ascani said, "The ability to understand and address our customers’ needs quickly is at the heart of what we do and drives us to deliver innovative and cutting edge solutions for our customers.

"Xoom offers users an easy-to-use interface with a wealth of functionality that will enable insurance intermediaries to set up new policies and view existing ones. Most importantly it will expedite the claims process for injured workers with claim numbers being issued within minutes of lodgement."

Xoom can also be accessed through a web-based interface for use from a desktop or laptop.
