Health insurer WellPoint has appointed Andrea Schell as new vice president of underwriting for its National Accounts business.
In her new role, Schell will lead the National Accounts underwriting team and provide strategic consultation for new sales and account renewals and drive product pricing strategy.
Schell has 24 years of underwriting experience. Most recently, she served as regional vice president of underwriting for WellPoint’s Ohio local market, where she has held underwriting leadership roles for almost 13 years.
Schell will replace Norm Sowatzke, who was recently named as vice president of commercial underwriting.
Sowatzke, in his new role, will lead the overall commercial business underwriting efforts for all commercial business segments, including policy and compliance, reporting and analytics, and underwriting performance effectiveness.
WellPoint national accounts business president and CEO John Langenus said Andrea brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to her new role, which is vital in ensuring the continued success of National Accounts.
