United Property & Casualty Insurance Company (UPC), a wholly-owned subsidiary of United Insurance Holdings, has received an approval from Massachusetts Insurance Department to write property and casualty insurance in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as an admitted carrier.

The latest approval brings the total number of states in the US covered by UPC to three, along with Florida and South Carolina.

United CEO Don Cronin said that this is another significant step in the expansion outside of Florida.

UPC writes and services homeowners insurance in Florida and South Carolina and a completely integrated insurance company, including sales, underwriting, customer service and claims.

It also distributes homeowners, dwelling fire and flood products through various agency groups and conducts business through four wholly-owned subsidiaries. Homeowners insurance constitutes the majority of United’s premiums and policies.
