United Fire has appointed Michael Phillips as a member of Board of Directors and named Ed Sullivan as vice president.

Phillips served Investors’ Actuarial Services, as founder and president and also worked for Baltimore office of Stifel, Nicolaus & Co. Inc, as vice president and sell-side equity analyst covering small- and mid-cap insurers from 2005 to 2010.

Prior to that, Phillips served at international actuarial consulting firm, Milliman, as a consulting actuary from 2002-2004.

With a significant insurance industry experience, Phillips is also an actuary and an associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) in addition to the Zurich Insurance, the Travelers Insurance, and GMAC Reinsurance.

Phillips will take part in the company’s annual stockholders’ meeting on May 16, 2012 for re-election.

Sullivan held several underwriting and marketing management positions with has over 25 years of experience in the insurance industry and begun at United Fire Group in February 2012.

The company’s net premiums written totaled $604.9m and market capitalization was $514.7m for the year ended 31 December 2011.
