Symetra Life Insurance has hired two new medical stop-loss insurance professionals in a bid to strengthen its existing ongoing relationships with third-party administrators (TPAs) as well as in creating new ones.

The two new directors, Judy VerPlanck-Elliott and David Guy, will assist in advancing the company’s strategy of expanding its stop-loss distribution network and managed care capabilities.

Symetra’s Benefits Division stop-loss claims leader Marien Diaz said that Judy and Dave were known in the TPA community for their knowledge of the stop-loss business and their collaborative approach with producers.

"As we work to deepen our relationships with TPA partners and support the personalized services they provide to employers, Judy and Dave will be at the forefront of this effort," Diaz added.

Both Judy and Guy, currently based in Boston, have previously served at the former underwriting affiliate of American United Life Insurance (AUL), R.E. Moulton.

In July 2011, the renewal rights for stop-loss policies issued by AUL were acquired by Symetra.

Most recently, Judy served as vice president of claims at R.E. Moulton and prior to Symetra, she worked as manager of the medical excess facility at Northshore International Insurance Services.

Judy began her career in Prudential’s Group Health Claims division.

David Guy served as producer and vendor relationship manager at R.E. Moulton and was responsible for providing sales and service support to TPA partners.

Guy held several different claims positions at Health Reinsurance Management Partnership, Aetna Student Health and Northshore International Insurance Services.
