Sun Life Financial said that its Employee Benefits Group division will start to offer state-mandated temporary disability insurance (TDI) in Hawaii.

According to Sun Life, the new TDI protection issued by the Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada, will provide disability or sick leave benefits to workers unable to work because of an off-the-job sickness or injury.

The company said that the employers must offer TDI if they have two or more qualifying employees in Hawaii. The company’s expansion into TDI gives the employers with access to its efficient expertise as a disability benefits provider.

In addition, when employers purchase disability insurance from the company apart from TDI insurance, workers can benefit from integrated customer service for the length of their disability.

Alexandra Dumont, director of product management for group life and disability products at Sun Life, said: “As an authorized TDI carrier in Hawaii, Sun Life now provides a complete range of disability solutions for companies across the country.

“From employer-paid and voluntary disability insurance, FMLA services, advice-to-pay services, and state-mandated insurance, we have flexible disability solutions that fit our customers’ needs.”
