SCIC has laid down two more crop insurance development schemes into action

Saskatchewan Crop Insurance Corporation (SCIC), Canada, has laid down two more crop insurance development schemes into action – reported The StarPhoenix.

The first measure that SCIC is taking, is to raise the threshold for producers to be eligible for a full payment in case of a crop loss. Each crop has a different threshold. For example, producers with wheat yields below five bushels per acre will be eligible for the full payout, up from 2.49 bushels previously. For claims purposes, anything below the threshold would be counted as zero production, resulting in a full payout.

The second measure from SCIC allows farmers to till or spray out their crop to qualify for summerfallow coverage in 2010. The crop must be taken out of production before July 15.

The third measure permits an improved number of producers to have their claims processed without field inspection.
