The Physicians Insurance Association of America (PIAA) has appointed MMIC president chief and executive officer Bill McDonough to its board of directors, with immediate effect.

McDonough, during his three-year board term, will serve as a member of the regulatory affairs committee and the board liaison to the dental and marketing sections of the PIAA, which sponsor educational events suited to specific interests of PIAA members throughout the year.

MMIC chief financial officer and senior vice president Niles Cole is the existing technology, human resources and finance section chair for the PIAA.

McDonough led MMIC to its rank of 17th in the nation as a medical professional liability company and the 13th leading writer of physician MPLI, and is also responsible for leading MMIC’s effort to become a mutual insurance holding company.

Founded in 1980, MMIC Group offers professional liability insurance and health information technology services and currently insures more than 14,000 health care providers and 375 hospitals and health care facilities.
