Study conducted by Esure, an online provider of insurance products, has revealed that one in four Brits went to the skiing holiday without travel insurance cover of any kind, and many others that do have policies have not taken time to check they are covered for all their on-piste activities.

According to Direct Line, 1.15 million people from the UK jetted off on a skiing holiday last season. However, many people are unaware of the potential risks involved in traveling abroad, particularly for those taking part in winter sports.

Cancellations, stolen property and injury can cause disappointment, expense and even pain, so it is worth making sure people are prepared for every eventuality. Direct Line suggests that, on average, people pay approximately GBP1,200 for their ski outfit and equipment, and with an increasing trend towards buying designer gear, skiers can become prime targets for thieves

James Caldwell, director of Fair Investment Company, said: The best way to do this is to ensure you have a comprehensive travel insurance policy in place, just in case disaster strikes. Rather than worrying about expensive items while you are away, make sure all your possessions are covered – especially if you are taking new Christmas presents along.
