New York Life Insurance has appointed John Fleurant as new senior vice president, finance, and controller. He will replace John Cullen, who will be retiring in March.

He will report to executive vice president and chief financial officer Michael Sproule.

Fleurant will be responsible for overseeing the controller’s, tax, and treasury departments as well as responsible for financial planning, accounting policy, and rating agency relationships.

Prior to joining New York Life, Fleurant served as controller at Prudential Financial. Since joining Prudential in 1995, he held positions of increasing responsibility, including chief financial officer for domestic businesses. Before that, he was a senior manager for Deloitte & Touche, where he spent nine years.
