New York Life Insurance Company has appointed money management executive Gerald Smith as a new member of the company’s board of directors, effective from 1 November 2012.

Smith currently serves as chairman and CEO at his co-founded global investment management firm, Smith, Graham & Company Investment Advisors.

New York Life chairman and CEO Ted Mathas said Gerald has extensive investment management expertise, as well as leadership and business-building skills.

Smith also held service with Underwood Neuhaus & Co as senior vice president and director as well as at Westcap Corporation where he was responsible for national sales and trading with institutional investors.

In addition to working with Dillon Read and Co in the fixed income sector, trading and advising in portfolio management, Smith was appointed to the Board of The Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas – Houston Branch in 2011.

He is a trustee of the Charles Schwab Family of Funds and also serves on the boards of ONEOK, ONEOK Partners GP, and Cooper Industries.

Additionally he serves as chair of the Texas Southern University Foundation, board and executive committee member of the National Association of Securities Professionals (NASP) board of directors, as well as board member of the Greater Houston Partnership in the role of chairman of the Transportation Policy Committee.
