Munich Reinsurance America has introduced a new personal lines inland flood insurance product in the US, allowing the firm to offer more options for homeowners in low-to-moderate-hazard flood zones.

Inland

The new Inland Flood Coverage Endorsement can be linked to the consumer’s existing Homeowners insurance policy that bought through a participating insurance carrier.

According to the firm, discussions with prospective carriers and state regulatory authorities are currently in progress.

Munich Re America reinsurance division president Steve Levy said: "Our innovation around flood coverage is designed to address an underserved market, particularly given the increased risk of flooding due to more intense annual precipitation over the last decades.

"This product is an attractive alternative for non-coastal homeowners looking for competitively priced, lower-limit coverage to protect their homes and personal property."

Munich Reinsurance America affiliate Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance will provide full implementation services for insurance carriers that select to offer the new inland flood insurance product.

American Modern Insurance Group and Munich Reinsurance America affiliate Specialty Insurance Services (SIS) will provide flood claims management services.

Flood is the common natural disaster in the US and all 50 states received floods or flash floods over the past five years, according to the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).
