Medicus Insurance, a medical professional liability insurance (MPLI) carrier, has received approval from the Alabama Department of Insurance to offer coverage to the physicians and surgeons in the state.

Medicus’ rates and form filing was approved July 14, 2010. Medicus is admitted in 25 states and the approval marks Alabama as the 19th state in which it writes business.

Medicus offers a claims-made, non-assessable policy written through a select group of premier agents who specialize in the medical professional liability field. Medicus also provides prior acts coverage to insureds in addition to the power of consent to settle.

Eugenie Shea, president and chief operating officer of Medicus, said: “We are excited to be able to help protect and defend the reputations and careers of Alabama doctors. Medicus is a strong company that has responsibly managed its growth—giving physicians who entrust their coverage to us added assurance that they are covered by a company committed to them and the state in which they practice.”
