Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance has promoted Sheldon Francis to vice president and assistant general counsel in the law division's investment law group.

Since joining Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance (MassMutual) in August of 2006, Mr Francis’ primary focus has been on structuring and closing collateralized debt obligation transactions, hedge fund transactions and syndicated bank loan purchases.

Earlier 2008, Mr Francis was named as the section head of the bank loan, mezzanine and private equity and distressed debt section in the investment law group.

Prior to joining MassMutual, Mr Francis was with the law firm of Helms, Mulliss and Wicker and, before that, he was with Bass, Berry & Sims.

Mr Francis holds a juris doctor from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law, and a BA in history from Duke University, where he graduated with honors.
