Property and casualty insurer Liberty Mutual Insurance is offering an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) program for disputed sandy claims for its customers in partnership with Kenneth Feinberg.

Feinberg willo oversee the voluntary, three-phase program, while assisting customers to avoid lengthy legal process.

The new program is now available to Safeco, Peerless, and Ohio casualty insurance customers, following the completion of traditional claim-adjustment channels.

Feinberg said that Liberty Mutual Insurance new program will accelerate the process for the most complex Sandy claims for its customers.

"Similar to our successful program after Katrina, I am confident that we can provide Liberty Mutual customers with protracted coverage disagreements an independent alternative to reaching quicker resolutions than costly litigation," Feinberg added.

Liberty Mutual Personal Insurance executive vice president and chief claims officer Ted Gramer said, "Resolving claims disputes through proven alternatives to the court system could accelerate an expensive settlement process for customers from possibly years to just a few months."

Feinberg also successfully managed an ADR program in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005 for Liberty Mutual.
