Liberty Mutual's Commercial Markets strategic business unit has appointed James Conroy as head of specialized construction underwriting unit.

The newly consolidated specialty construction operation that will underwrite all middle market and large account construction related submissions to the unit, to better serve construction brokers and risk managers.

Prior to his new position, Conroy was responsible for underwriting large construction risks for Liberty Mutual Commercial Markets.

Before joining the Boston-based insurer in 2003, Conroy held a variety of senior construction risk underwriting, surety and loss control positions.

Liberty Mutual Commercial Markets senior vice president and chief underwriting officer for construction Conroy said the newly consolidated construction underwriting operation lets agents and brokers access specialized knowledge of construction risk and local decision making throughout Commercial Markets’ account-size spectrum.

"It will also build our construction specialty presence in field offices, better aligning us with our agents and brokers," Conroy said.
