Legal & General Assurance Society has announced that it has significantly improved its immediate protection cover facility by extending cover from 30 days to 60 days and doubling business critical illness cover to GBP1 million.

Immediate cover is a service which plugs the gap for customers who are waiting to have their application accepted while they go through medical and/or financial underwriting.

Immediate cover is available for applications with a minimum sum assured of GBP100,000 and a maximum of GBP2 million for term assurance and GBP1 million for business critical illness cover.

Russ Whitworth, director of underwriting and claims at Legal & General, said: Legal & General now offers the most generous immediate cover in the UK protection market. It provides valuable peace of mind for clients while they are being underwritten for a policy, ensuring that as soon as they apply, there is a safety net in place should they die.

Applicants for business life insurance with an added critical illness plan are also covered if they get one of the listed critical illnesses before their policy starts. Immediate cover is especially useful for high net worth or business customers where the sums assured are often high and the underwriting more complex.
