IBM has selected MapInfo, a provider of location intelligence systems, to power the new prospecting portlet in its Core Life insurance solution. The MapInfo prospecting portlet will enable insurance agents to identify and locate target customers based on neighborhood demographic, lifestyle and consumption patterns, helping increase sales and market share.

Built on MapInfo location intelligence technology, the prospecting portlet enables insurance agents to visualize prospective customers in their assigned territory, along with key market demographics, to more effectively target their ideal customer segments.

IBM’s new prospecting portlet was developed on the MapInfo Envinsa location intelligence platform, which is built on an open, Accord XML standards-based architecture designed for seamless integration into existing IT environments and business applications.

Also within the Core Life Solution system, MapInfo provides ‘find the nearest’ portlets with driving directions that enable insurance carriers to provide customers with easy to use self-service applications, such as agent or medical facility locators.

MapInfo now provides two critical customer service applications within the IBM Core Life Solution enabling consumers to find insurance agents and helping agents find ideal customers, said Craig Bedell, director of global insurance at MapInfo.

Insurance carriers are becoming more aware of the need for location intelligence analysis across the entire organization, to improve claims and policy management practices, and reduce underwriting mistakes and better target customers, he continued.
