Humana has named Mark El-Tawil as the division leader for Humana medicare division in the west region, which includes Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii and Nevada.

The company has assigned him to manage its medicare HMO and PPO health plans, medicare prescription drug plans, medicare supplement policies, and private fee-for-service health plans offered to people eligible for medicare in the West Region.

According to an estimate, Humana has nearly 495,000 Medicare members in the West Region.

In July 2008, El-Tawil joined Humana as president of the company’s employer group market operations in Arizona.

He has been serving as chief executive officer for Humana’s West Region Employer Group division since May 2010.

The underwriter said that Ken Malcolmson, who presently works as chief executive officer for Humana’s West Central Region, will expand his region to include the West Region. Now, the united region will be referred to as the West Region.

Humana Medicare segment vice president and president Alan Wheatley said Humana’s medicare operations in the West have been growing over the last several years.

"Mark’s prior experience in the Medicare space makes him the perfect candidate for this position. Mark’s strong ties in the region and his proven leadership skills will be instrumental to our success as we continue to expand and offer our senior community plans that meet their needs," Wheatley said.
