Pennsylvania-based health insurance provider, Highmark has introduced Simply Blue PPO, a new individual insurance health plan that will be effective from 1 February 2012.

The new plan follows on the line of the feedback provided by its members for a more affordable plan without a large upfront deductible. The insurance plan offers simple health insurance coverage with a low premium, low deductible and predictable copayment structure.

Simply Blue does not include maternity coverage but offers preventive care benefits with 100% coverage, emergency room coverage and vision benefits.

The plan uses Highmark’s Progressive Formulary, a new focused and generic-driven prescription drug plan to seek lower-cost drug alternatives, while ensuring continued access to a high-quality pharmacy program and brand-name drugs.

Highmark senior vice president of health services strategy product and marketing Steven Nelson said that the plan was intended for individuals without group coverage such as active, young adults or early retirees at an affordable price.
