The Hartford Financial Services Group has promoted Lizabeth Zlatkus to executive vice president and CFO of The Hartford and John Walters to president and COO of the company's life operations.

Ms Zlatkus will report to Ramani Ayer, The Hartford’s chairman and CEO. Mr Walters will continue to report to Thomas Marra, The Hartford’s president and COO. Both leaders will continue to serve as members of the office of the chairman.

The promotions are effective May 1, 2008, following a transition period during which Mr Walters and Ms Zlatkus, who are presently co-COOs of The Hartford’s life operations, will prepare to assume their new roles.

Ms Zlatkus will succeed the current CFO David Johnson, who announced in January 2008 his intention to leave the company by mid-year. Ms Zlatkus will be responsible for corporate strategy, finance, capital and enterprise risk management, investor relations, real estate and corporate information systems functions.

In his new role, Mr Walters will lead an organization with more than $370 billion in assets under management and a mission to develop and distribute superior wealth management products for customers in key markets around the world.
