Hartford Financial Services Group has appointed Hedley Blane as the new chief underwriting officer for its subsidiary, Hartford Financial Products International (HFPI), an underwriter of corporate management liability insurance for multi-national commercial entities and financial institutions.

In his new role, Mr Blane will be responsible to expand HFPI’s platform by developing and managing its London-based underwriting team, enhancing and executing on HFPI’s underwriting strategy and improving overall profitable growth of its underwriting operation.

He will be based in HFPI’s London office and will report to Christopher Magee, managing director of HFPI.

Mr Blane joins HFPI from Marsh, where he served as senior vice president in the company’s financial products practice in London. Prior to Marsh, he held senior underwriting roles at Arch and ACE Europe and also senior broker roles with HSBC, Sedgwick and Marsh in the UK and Australia.

Mr Magee said: “Hedley’s high level of experience and expertise in management liability products in the UK and continental European markets will be invaluable as we continue to invest in the expansion of HFPI’s global underwriting platform.”
