Hanover Insurance Group, a provider of property and casualty insurance, has appointed Gerald Merritt as new president of its professional liability business.

In this new role, Mr Merritt will lead efforts to grow Hanover’s professional liability business, which provides a range of coverages, including architects and engineers, lawyers and miscellaneous professional liability.

Mr Merritt will work closely with the professional liability team to expand the capabilities of the business unit to create greater opportunities for the company’s agent partners to grow their respective businesses.

Mr Merritt joins Hanover from CNA Global Specialty Lines, where he served in various senior management roles, including most recently, vice president of the accountants and lawyers professional liability businesses. Previously, he served as assistant vice president for CNA Global Specialty Lines’ lawyers professional liability product with overall responsibility for underwriting, product development, risk management, marketing and agency management.

Hanover’s professional liability business is part of the company’s Hanover Professional Portfolio, a suite of professional and management liability solutions to protect private companies, non-profits and public companies against a growing number of financial exposures.
