The Hanover Insurance Group has appointed David Greenfield as new executive vice president and senior financial officer, effective immediately.

Greenfield will assume the roles of chief financial officer and principal accounting officer in March. He will succeed Steven Bensinger, who will be stepping down to return to the New York area.

Bensinger will stay on through March, working closely with Greenfield to ensure a smooth transition of financial leadership.

Most recently Greenfield served as executive vice president and chief financial officer of Bermuda-based AXIS Capital Holdings. He joined AXIS in 2006, and served as a member of the company’s executive management group. Previously, he worked for KPMG for 22 years.

The Hanover CEO Frederick Eppinger said David’s years as a partner in KPMG’s insurance practice and as chief financial officer of AXIS will provide with valuable insight and perspective.
