The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America has completed the acquisition of Avēsis, which offers dental, vision and hearing insurance plans to the customers.

Terms of the deal, which was announced in December, have not been disclosed.

Avesis is claimed to be one of the leading administrators for vision, dental and hearing benefits for government and commercial programs in the US.

The company has around three million members under medicaid, CHIP and medicare advantage programs, as well as 1.5 million members under group vision programs.

Avesis has partnerships with managed care organizations, which hold government contracts in 21 states.

Guardian former group and worksite markets vice-president Chris Swanker has been selected as CEO of Avesis, which has around 440 employees.

At the time of acquisition, Swanker said: "Avesis’ proprietary network of independent dentists and optometrists provide significant synergies with Guardian’s extensive benefits portfolio, as well as those of our subsidiaries Premier Access Insurance Company and Access Dental Services."

With around 70 agencies across the US, Guardian offers life insurance, disability income insurance, annuities, and investment products to its customers.
