Fireman’s Fund Insurance, a property and casualty insurance company, has expanded its commercial green insurance coverage to include alternative energy equipment.
Alternative energy equipment that Fireman will insure includes solar photovoltaic panels, fuel cells, wind turbines and ground source heat pumps.
Fireman senior director of emerging industries Stephen Bushnell said that a growing number of policyholders are installing solar panels, fuel cells and wind turbines on their premises and because these items have unique insurance needs the company is introducing comprehensive coverage tailored for the risks of alternativte energy equipment.
“The company also focused on alternative energy risk management to help our insureds’ deal with the exposures surrounding alternative energy systems, including theft, weather damage and fire department access to buildings with these devices,” Bushnell said.
